IMF Chief: The global economy is better than expected, but the real test is coming
2025-10-13
CCTV News: IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated in a speech in the United States on the 8th that the global economy is better than expected but has not reached the 'required level,' and the real test for the global economy may be approaching.
On the 8th local time, during a preview speech for the 2025 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings held in Washington, D.C., Georgieva said that the world is currently undergoing profound changes. Changes in geopolitics, technological revolutions, demographic shifts, as well as the increasing damage humans are causing to the planet, have led to a sharp and continuous rise in global uncertainty.

Georgieva mentioned that the full impact of tariff policies 'has not yet fully manifested.' In the United States, compressed corporate profits may drive up prices, creating new inflationary pressures.
She also believes that the loose financial environment has masked 'weak trends,' and 'once valuations experience a significant correction, a tighter financial environment will drag down global economic growth and make conditions especially difficult for developing countries.' The IMF predicted in its July World Economic Outlook that global GDP growth this year will be 3%, slightly slower than in 2024. The organization will update its economic growth forecasts at the annual meetings to be held in Washington from the 13th to 18th.
